Amazonite
Amazonite is a beautiful green to blue-green variety of feldspar. Feldspar is one of the most abundant types of mineral in the world, but only a few varieties can be classed as gemstone quality. Colour of amazonite ranging from soft milky green to blue-green or turquoise. Some varieties have a mottled or spider-webbed pattern. Amazonite is believed to have originated from the Amazon River in South America, although it was not found there. Instead, it was probably named after green stones that were found in the Amazon Basin but were not actually amazonite. Main geological locations of Amazonite are Russia, USA and Madagascar.
Amazonite is said to have been used as far back as the 10th century B.C. by the semi-mythical Amazons – a tribe of powerful female warriors, who wore it as part of their shields. From ancient Egypt, ancient Rome and Greece through out middle age amazonite was highly regarded crystal used in jewellery, amulets and for decorative purposes. Nowadays, amazonite is highly regarded crystal, used for its beauty and metaphysical properties.
Metaphysically, amazonite is considered a stone of empowerment and balance. it is believed amazonite lifts up worries and calms overactive mind. It is associated with emotional balance and calm. In crystal healing it is often used to help with self expression, harmony and communication .
